Though traditional Afghan culture is often confused with the austere Deobani form of Islam introduced by the Taliban, the reality is that Afghans love music and dancing. Attan, a traditional Pashtun dance performed throughout Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan, is believed to date back to ancient Greece though many locals claim that it is indigenous to the region and was originally performed by sheep herders as a means of keeping warm in the winter.
