I have been living and working pretty much continuously in Afghanistan since May of 2008. In October 2011, I began shooting only with film; and using primarily plastic cameras. The images in this collection were shot with a Lomography Holga and Sprocket Rocket, Fuji Instamax, Polaroid Passport, and Nikon FM3a over a six month period. The photos themselves are of street life as I see it. As one of the few foreigners with no security restrictions I am free to roam the streets of the capital, Herat, and Kandahar City. Many of these images are the product of long walks, while others were shot simply while walking to the corner grocery store to pick up some coffee and cereal. So while the images themselves are in some ways visually disparate due to the different cameras used, the theme of commonness and actuality--of people moving about the world not unaware but by now somewhat inured to the endless war around them--threads the piece together.
