About Casey Garret Johnson
The majority of photos collected on this site are unpublished and unpolished work carried out either on the sidelines of written assignments or at odd hours after the day’s work was done—sometimes stress relief, sometimes a sedative. Though the images presented here are for sale, the real point of this site is to seek out individuals and organizations interested in collaborating on long form photojournalism projects. Projects which explore either under-reported areas or over-reported areas from new perspectives. Perspectives in which text and photos exist without subordination to one another—photos which are not mere illustrations and words that are not simply captions.
Casey Johnson has been living in Afghanistan since 2008; based in Kabul but reporting on tribal politics and the insurgency from the south. He holds degrees in literature, journalism, and international law from Seatle University, The Indian Institute of Journalism, and The Fletcher School.
